Our search for Tampa’s best breakfast sandwich took us to Himes Breakfast House on South Himes Avenue in Tampa, just a five-and-a-half-mile drive down Bayshore Blvd. from Harbour Island.
Although, as we quickly discovered, there’s no true “breakfast Sammy” to be found on the menu.
No matter. Our friendly server, Lexi, steered us toward the pork belly Benedict, and honestly, she deserves a raise.
If you think about it, an open-faced Benedict is basically a sandwich with better posture.
The dish was outstanding. The house-made hollandaise was silky and bright, the eggs were poached perfectly, and the thick-cut pork belly brought a rich, smoky depth that tied everything together. The toasted English muffin held up beautifully under the weight of it all. Paired with a side of loaded grits—creamy, cheesy, and topped with scallions and bacon—it made for a filling and memorable breakfast.
The team kept things pleasant and efficient throughout our visit. My wife gave the coffee high marks, and my mom enjoyed her eggs and fruit bowl.
Our total came to $57.29 for three people, or about $19 per person, which felt fair for the quality and portions.
Himes Breakfast House may not have a traditional breakfast sandwich, but the pork belly Benedict absolutely earns a spot on our list of Tampa breakfast favorites.
